Dr. Sara Place Stops by Pasture-to-Plate Beef Tour

Each year, the California Beef Council (CBC) invites retail and foodservice influencers to join us on our Pasture-to-Plate Beef Tour.  The tour is intended to provide these influential members of important industry channels with sufficient background and education to help inform them on all aspects of beef production, including the tough questions they might receive from customers, shoppers or diners. Tour stops include a cow-calf ranch, dairy, calf ranch, stockyard, feedyard and processing facility.

The tour provides a transparent, open-door dialog between tour attendees and producers, giving deeper insight into challenges faced by today's cattle ranchers and beef producers, continuous improvements, what it means to be sustainable, and more.

For this year's tour, we were fortunate to be joined by Dr. Sara Place, specialist in sustainable management and livestock production systems. Joel Hastings of DairyBusiness caught up with the tour at one of the stops, and he spoke briefly with Dr. Place about the increasing efficiency of U.S. beef production, with a resulting smaller carbon footprint.
